Vegetarian Kapsalon recipe

I regularly eat a Kapsalon with both meat and vegan style. For my own homemade Kapsalon, i chose to do in vegetarian style. First I tell you in short what Kapsalon actually is, why they call Kapsalon and how it came into being a popular dish. Then i share my recipe Kapsalon.

Kapsalon is in Dutch a hairsalon/ hairdressing salon. What is actually Kapsalon? A Kapsalon is a dish consisting of fries covered with shawarma or doner, topped with cheese, put under the grill, so that the cheese melts, with salad on top. Often the Kapsalon is served with garlic sauce and sambal. Instead of shawarma, the Kapsalon is also prepared with kebab, doner, gyros, chicken or falafel.

Why do they call the Kapsalon and how did it come about? The dish was created in 2003 by Nataniel Gomes, the owner of a hairdressing salon on the Schiedamseweg in Rotterdam, at the shoarma store El Aviva, located a bit further away, had a lunch dish made up with all his favorite ingredients. It became a regular order, which was given the designation ‘hairdresser’. The dish became popular among young people and is available in many Dutch and Belgian snack bars and shoarma shops. The dish is also popular in Germany. Since 2011, the Golden Hair Salon Award has been awarded annually for the best hair salon in Rotterdam. A hair salon is very high-calorie. (info: Wikipedia)
